The Windy City

I just returned from a work trip to Chicago where I spent most of the past week. It’s been a few years since Nick and I visited Chicago together, so we made plans to head out together a few days before my meetings started so we could catch up with friends and spend some time touring the city.

We arrived on Saturday and after checking into our hotel we took a walk along the Chicago river. The weather was so beautiful, it was sunny and in the high-70s/low-80s, and was a nice break from the 90-degree temperatures we’ve continued to have in D.C.

We made our way down to Millenium Park to see the Cloud Gate sculpture, dubbed “The Bean”.

We took the obligatory picture with the bean in the background.

And of course, a picture of our reflection in it.

For lunch that afternoon we dined on a Chicago-style hot dog, a Windy City classic!

We completely lucked out that the annual Chicago Air & Water Show was that weekend, so as soon as we started hearing the jet engines we made our way down to the waterfront for the show.

The Blue Angels air acrobatics were absolutely amazing, watching the show was my favorite part of the weekend.

Later that evening we met a few of our college friends at Vertigo Sky Lounge for a drink – the all glass walls offered a great view of the city.

Nick posed for this picture with the McDonalds arches in the lower left-hand corner, because he was  politely escorted out of it by officers one late night in college. No worries, he only received a warning to never return 🙂

After drinks we went to an Argentine grill called Folklore, which had really amazing food. We made a few more stops that evening and stayed out way too late, but it was definitely worth it since we had a great time catching up with friends!

Sunday morning Nick ventured out again with the guys to kayak down the Chicago river.

Later that afternoon we got a quick tour of some Chicago neighborhoods before heading to lunch with our friends. We walked around and saw a bit more of Chicago before making our way back to our hotel to relax after such a fun and busy weekend.

Sadly, after Nick left early Monday morning, I spent the remainder of my time inside of a conference room!

Overall it was a really nice trip, and I’m so glad that we were able to visit friends and spend a few days together in such a great city…I can’t wait to go back!
